The Dayton Audio SUB series-powered subwoofer systems are the perfect addition to any home theater system. These powered subs feature a bottom-firing, flared port, bass-reflex design for reduced port noise and increased bass response, utilizing a long-throw woofer to product house-shaking power.
The amplifier features high and low-level inputs and high-level outputs, a phase switch, independent volume control, an auto on/off switch (activated by an input signal) and a variable 12 dB electronic low pass filter. These compact subs are finished in an unobtrusive black vinyl that will complement any decor. Onboard connectivity makes this an easy-to-add and easy-to-adjust solution.
The line level inputs are used to connect pre-put or preamplifier outputs directly to the subwoofer amplifier's internal crossover, with the right "red" input recommended for a mono line level signal from a "Pro-Logic" or "Dolby Digital" receiver. If preamplifier outputs are not available, the high-level (speaker) inputs can be utilized by connecting the speaker wire directly to the amplifier.
There are also high-level outputs that can be used to connect to main speakers or to another powered subwoofer with high-level inputs. The crossover frequency control is continuously variable from 40 Hz at 12 dB/octave, and should be set to where the audio does not sound "muddy," typically between 60-80 Hz. The gain control adjusts the output level of the subwoofer, and should be set to where the bass frequencies blend with the other speakers, as most people have a tendency to set the level too high, making the audio sound "boomy."
The phase switch, selectable between 0° and 180°, assists with subwoofer placement, with the correct position being the one that provides the most apparent bass output. In the auto power mode, the amplifier will automatically turn on when a signal is present, with the power on LED always on (red) in the auto/off mode, turning green when the unit is activated.
The Dayton Audio SUB series powered subwoofer system is capable of delivering realistic, room-shaking home theater bass effects, even in larger rooms. The downward-firing flared port design ensures clean, powerful bass, and the selectable "Auto-on" mode, heavy-duty long-throw woofer, and unobtrusive textured black vinyl finish make this an excellent choice for small home theaters or listening rooms.
